Breaking the Silence

Crucial battles that impact our times require prophetic moments where others are given a “call to arms”, so to speak. It is not enough to know that there is a problem that is occurring. People must be given hope and solutions to address those problems. The urgency for the radical revolution in values called for by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in 1967 is clearly greater now than ever.  Organizing group readings, discussions, and nonviolent actions based of Dr. King’s “A Time to Break Silence speech, delivered on April 4, 1967, is an opportunity to significantly advance that mission.  The purpose of this site is to raise awareness of Dr. Martin Luther King’s speech “Beyond Vietnam –A Time To Break Silence”.   Dr. King’s call to address poverty, racism, materialism and militarism is as relevant today as it was almost 50 years ago when he delivered the speech at Riverside Church in New York.     He said that those “triplets of evils” have done excessive harm to mankind. The “Beyond Vietnam” speech reminds us of the power of non-violent direct action and calls us to “be the change” we want to see in the world.
